NVQ Level 2 Hairdressing 



City & Guilds NVQ Level 2 is one of the most recognised qualifications in the industry. Achieving this through an apprenticeship will give you the best start in your career as a hairdresser.The course and its content are spread over 14 months. We encourage everyone who completes this course to progress onto further training and the NVQ Level 3. Hairdressing is an ever changing industry and this course is an ideal stepping stone to a satisfying career as a stylist.


Course Criteria:

The course will consist of theory and practical training alongside work experience in your salon

As part of your apprenticeship you will cover:


Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)

Key / Functional Skills Level 1 (Depending on your GCSE results)

G20 Health & Safety

G17 Positive Impression

G7 Consultation

GH8 Shampoo & Condition

GH9 Colour Hair

GH10 Style & Finish

GH11 Set & Dress

GH12 Cut Hair

GH13 Plait & Twist

G8 Working Effectively

You will need a City & Guilds Level 2 Textbook and hairdressing kit, details of both will be available from your assessor on your induction.



NVQ Level 3 Hairdressing Advanced 


After achieving your NVQ Level 2 this course is aimed at developing your creative side, concentrating on cutting, colouring and styling. At the end of the course you will be involved in either a photo shoot or hair show. Ideal for anyone who wants to be the best of the best!

Course Criteria:


You must be working as an employed stylist in a salon. The course will consist of practical and theory.


As part of your advanced apprenticeship you will cover:

Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) (If not covered at level 2)

Key / Functional Skills Level 2 (Depending on your GCSE results)



Hairdressing Units:


G22 Monitor all procedures to safely control work operations

G18 Promote additional services or products to clients

G21 Provide hairdressing consultation services

GH16 Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques

GH17 Colour hair using a variety of techniques

GH18 Provide colour correction services

GH19 Creatively style and dress long hair

GH21 Develop and enhance your creative hairdressing skills

H32 Contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities
